WE’LL WED IN THE SPRINGTIME…

There is so much to say about this day with Maryoli and Fernando.

Starting off with how they met — they have been friends for a very very long time. They met in a tiny village of their home in Mexico because their parents were best friends with each other. They started dating in their early teens, and now almost 15 years later, they’re married.

They live in the colder weather of Chicago, so they thought switching it up and getting married in Hawai’i was a little bit more ideal. They wanted a place that was unique and fun for all of their closest friends and family to gather.

As soon as they reached out and we chatted a little bit more, it was obvious we were a great fit for each other. The vision that they had for their day was unique yet simple, and most importantly, focused on each other and their closest loved ones. They put sole trust in Cam and I to document their day, artistically and truthfully, and really we can’t ask for any more than that.

They started their day off at a hotel in Waikiki in one of my favorite lobbies in the whole city. They had their first look there which was incredibly special to witness, as always. After shooting around the hotel a bit more, we finally all headed off to the North Shore of O’ahu where they were getting married.

The spot chosen for the ceremony is a very favorite on island, and Maryoli and Fernando chose the perfect time to do so. Like many spots on island, there’s seasons to shoot here and seasons to not, because the weather affects the landscape so much. Getting married in the spring, it’s right before this area completely dries out from the lack of rain, and blooms wildflowers everywhere.

Maryoli wore her new balances from the parking lot to the ceremony spot, and together they and their closest marched out to the spot they would exchange vows. It was picturesque standing underneath massive mountains and next to the ocean.

Their ceremony was mid-day which I’m not going to lie, made us all a bit nervous haha. Maryoli brought umbrellas to shield her guests, and it challenged Cam and I a bit since there’s absolutely no shade in sight at this location. But really, it couldn’t have been more perfect. It offered unique lighting, forced us to get creative and out of our comfort zone, and most importantly, felt totally them.

When I say Maryoli and Fernando only cared about being married, I mean it. The focus was totally on each other which meant we directed very little, let them interact with one another naturally, and just sat back and documented and they completely trusted us to do so. These are the people that we love documenting.

It made for some of my favorite photos to date, and Cam has a video as well I will link below and also blog about later!
